The locomotive in the image is a 3ft narrow gauge locomotive built for the County Donegal Joint Railways Committee (CDJRC) in 1907 by Nasmith and Wilson, originally numbered No. 16 and named "Donegal". She was superheated in 1926 and then renamed and renumbered as No. 4 "Meenglas" in 1937. The locomotive was withdrawn from service on the 31-12-1959, when the CDJRC ceased to exist as a railway company.

None of the early Brewery locomotives being entirely satisfactory, the Guinness Engineering Director, Mr Geoghegan, set about designing a locomotive possessing all their best features but without their handicaps. The result was an 0−4−0 side tank engine with horizontally mounted cylinders situated above the marine-type boiler driving through a dummy crankshaft and vertical connecting rods, which in turn drove the wheels. Instead of the cylinders being bolted to the boiler, they were fixed to the frames which were carried the full height of the locomotive above the top of the boiler. The side tanks were also attached to the frames. Another novel feature was the independent spring frame which consisted of eight steel leaves in pairs, two pairs on each side of the locomotive and one pair each above and below the axleboxes. It was attached to the front and back stays, so that by removing the pins and connecting rods, and with the locomotive lifted, the spring frame could be wheeled out from beneath the locomotive to receive attention and maintenance. The general layout of these engines was one of accessibility for repair but with maximum protection from dirt.

No. 36 dates from 1847 and is displayed in the booking hall at Kent Railway Station, Cork, Eire.

Originally built by Bury, Curtis, and Kennedy of Liverpool at a cost of £1,955, the engine was obtained by the Great Southern and Western Railway to run services from Dublin to Cork. The engine remained in service until 1874.

She was displayed at the Cork exhibition in 1902, the Railway Centenary Exhibition in 1925 and the bi-centenary of the Royal Dublin Society at Ballsbridge in 1930. She was moved to a new position and restored by Iarnród Éireann in 2007.

This engine is ingeniously arranged so as to be able to run either on 3 ft narrow gauge or on standard gauge tracks by the simple expedient of lifting the entire loco onto a standard gauge wagon. The locos wheels then drive the wagons wheels by means of flanged wheels mounted on the wagons axles.
