  • Die Liste der amtierenden Gouverneure der Vereinigten Staaten umfasst alle Personen, die gegenwärtig Inhaber eines Gouverneursamtes in einem US-Bundesstaat oder in einem US-Außengebiet sind.

    Der Gouverneur ist der Staats- und Regierungschef seines Staates oder Außengebietes. Ferner ist er Oberbefehlshaber der jeweiligen National- und Staatsgarde. Der Gouverneur leitet die Regierungsgeschäfte in seinem Staat, verfügt über ein Begnadigungsrecht und hat repräsentative Aufgaben. Der jeweilige Amtsträger nimmt im bundesstaatlichen Gesetzgebungsverfahren eine zentrale Rolle ein und ist für die Besetzung wichtiger Staatsämter zuständig. Gewählt werden die Gouverneure direkt von der Bevölkerung ihres Bundesstaats oder Außengebietes. Während nur in den Staaten New Hampshire und Vermont der Gouverneur für zwei Jahre gewählt ist, haben alle übrigen Gouverneure eine Amtsperiode von vier Jahren.

    Die Bestimmung des Gouverneurs erfolgt heute überall in Direktwahl, also nicht wie beim US-Präsidenten über Wahlmänner. Zum Gouverneur gewählt ist der Kandidat mit den meisten Stimmen, eine relative Mehrheit reicht also in allen Staaten bis auf Louisiana, wo eine absolute Mehrheit der Stimmen erforderlich ist. Erreicht dort kein Kandidat 50 Prozent der Stimmen, so findet eine Stichwahl statt.

    In einigen Staaten oder Außengebieten ist eine Wiederwahl nur einmal, teilweise nur unmittelbar nach der eigenen Amtszeit, zulässig.

    • Name: Der Vor- und Nachname des Gouverneurs.
    • Geburtstag: Das Datum der Geburt und in Klammern das aktuelle Alter.
    • Herkunft: Name des Staates, in welchem die Person geboren wurde.
    • Partei: Die zugehörige Partei:
    • Amtsbeginn: Das Datum des offiziellen Amtsantritts; falls bereits eine frühere Amtszeit bestand, so steht diese in Klammern.
    • Amtszeit bis: Bis zu diesem Jahr ist der Gouverneur gewählt. Wird das Jahr mit „(AZB)“ ergänzt, so kann die Person aufgrund einer Amtszeitbeschränkung nicht oder nur unter gewissen Voraussetzungen wiedergewählt werden.
    • Ehemalige: Eine Liste aller ehemaligen Gouverneure aus diesem Staat.

The luncheon was held at the First Infantry Division Museum at Cantigny in Wheaton, Illinois, on Sunday, Sept. 29.
