Berufungen ohne Amtsantritt
Robert Hanson Harrison wurde 1790 von George Washington zum Richter am Supreme Court berufen, lehnte die Berufung aber aus gesundheitlichen Gründen ab. Außerdem wurde Edwin M. Stanton im Dezember 1869 unter Präsident Ulysses S. Grant zum Richter berufen, starb aber vier Tage nach seiner Bestätigung durch den Senat noch vor Amtsantritt.[1]
