Laives ist eine französische Gemeinde mit 973 Einwohnern (Stand: 1. Januar 2021) im Département Saône-et-Loire in der Region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté; sie gehört zum Arrondissement Chalon-sur-Saône und ist Teil des Kantons Tournus (bis 2015: Kanton Sennecey-le-Grand). Die Einwohner werden Lavais genannt.

Geografie

Laives liegt etwa 15 Kilometer südlich von Chalon-sur-Saône. Umgeben wird Laives von den Nachbargemeinden Saint-Ambreuil im Norden, Beaumont-sur-Grosne im Nordosten, Sennecey-le-Grand im Osten und Südosten, Montceaux-Ragny im Süden, Nanton im Süden und Südwesten sowie Lalheue im Westen.

This building of character is called “Le Relais de Poste” (The post house) and dates from 1738. It was used as a farmhouse. The way it is laid out allows us to think it might have been an inn for light coaches. It was bought by the town in 2002. Restoration works were completed in 2009.

It was built in 1827 in the Neoclassical style, according to plans by the architect DUTHYL. It houses several restored paintings among which are The Last Supper, The Samaritan, The Meal at the House of Simon, Multiplication of Bread and Fish and a Nativity. The latter could be a copy of a painting which had disappeared from Richelieu’s cabinet.
