JCSAT-17 (auch JCSat 17) ist ein japanischer Kommunikationssatellit der SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation.
Geschichte
Am 3. Februar 2016 bestellte die SKY Perfect JSAT Corp. bei Lockheed Martin einen neuen geostationären Kommunikationssatelliten für ihre Flotte.[1] Diese bauten JCSAT-17 auf Basis ihres modernisierten LM-2100-Satellitenbusses und rüsteten ihn mit C-Band und Ku-Band-Transpondern aus.[2] Außerdem hat der Satellit eine 18 m große, entfaltbare S-Band-Antenne an Bord, welche von der Harris Corporation hergestellt wurde.[3] JCSAT-17 wog beim Start etwa 5900 kg und besitzt eine geplante Lebensdauer von über 15 Jahren. Des Weiteren ist er dreiachsenstabilisiert und wird von zwei großen Solarpanelen und Batterien mit Strom versorgt.
Missionsverlauf
Im Januar 2017 wurde Arianespace für den Start von JCSAT-17 beauftragt.[4] Der Satellit wurde im Januar 2020 nach Französisch-Guayana transportiert und dort für den Start vorbereitet.[5]
JCSAT-17 wurde am 18. Februar 2020 auf einer Ariane-5-Trägerrakete vom Raumfahrtzentrum Guayana zusammen mit dem südkoreanischen Wettersatelliten GEO-Kompsat 2B in eine geostationäre Transferbahn gebracht.[6] Er erreichte seine geostationäre Umlaufbahn durch Zünden des Bordmotors, wo er dann bei 136° Ost stationiert wurde.[7] Von dort aus versorgt er ganz Japan und die umliegenden Regionen mit Kommunikationsdienstleistungen.

For its third flight of 2020, Arianespace will orbit two telecommunications satellites using an Ariane 5 launch vehicle from the Guiana Space Center: JCSAT-17 for the Japanese operator SKY
Perfect JSAT Corporation; and GEO-KOMPSAT-2B for Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

Liftoff is planned on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, as early as possible within the following launch window: - Between 5:18 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Washington, D.C. time, - Between 7:18 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. Kourou, French Guiana time, - Between 22:18 and 23:20 Universal time (UTC), - Between 11:18 p.m. and 12:20 a.m. Paris time, in the night of February 18 to 19, - Between 07:18 a.m. and 08:20 a.m. Japan time, in the morning of February 19,
