Hughes Tool Company
Die Hughes Tool Company wurde 1909 von Howard Robard Hughes Sr. gegründet. Anfänglich stellte sie hauptsächlich Spezialbohrköpfe her, erweiterte ihr Produktspektrum jedoch kontinuierlich. Mit dem Tod von Hughes Senior ging die Firma in den Besitz seines Sohnes Howard Hughes Junior über, der damals noch Student der Rice University war.
1932 gründete Howard Hughes Junior die Tochtergesellschaft Hughes Aircraft. 1936 wurde Hughes Aircraft schließlich von der Mutterfirma losgelöst.
1972 wurde die Werkzeugsparte der Hughes Tool Company verkauft. Während die Werkzeugsparte weiter unter dem Namen Hughes Tool Company operierte, wurde der verbliebene Firmenrest in Summa Corporation umbenannt.
1987 fusionierten die Hughes Tool Company und Baker International zu Baker Hughes.

Sharp-Hughes Tool Company, later renamed just Hughes Tool Company, at its manufacturing building at the intersection of Second and Girard Streets, Houston, Texas. It moved there in 1912.
Prior to the renovation of the red-brick gothic building to fit Sharp-Hughes's needs for manufacturing two-bit rotary drills, it served as a Armour and Company meatpacking plant.
Today, the site of the building (now demolished) is on the campus of University of Houston–Downtown), where an unlabeled outdoor sculpture of an drill bit marks the approximate former location of the building (the sculpture being several hundred feet southeast of the actual location on the southeast end of the Jesse H. Jones Student Life Center, where as the building was located on the opposite, northwest end of the Center).
