Die HMS Bulwark (Kennung: L15) ist das zweite amphibische Landungsschiff (LPD) der Albion der Royal Navy. Sie ist das siebente Schiff dieses Namens und ersetzte mit ihrem Schwesterschiff HMS Albion die Landungsschiffe HMS Intrepid und HMS Fearless aus den 1960er-Jahren.
Geschichte
Mitte der 1990er-Jahre benötigte die Royal Navy einen Ersatz für ihre veralteten Landungsschiffe der Fearless. 1996 erteilte das Verteidigungsministerium dem Rüstungskonzern BAE Systems den Auftrag für die Konstruktion von zwei größeren und leistungsfähigeren Schiffen. Im Januar 2000 wurde die Bulwark auf Kiel gelegt, bereits im November 2001 fand der Stapellauf statt. Sie wurde schließlich am 10. Dezember 2004 offiziell in Dienst gestellt. Im Juli des folgenden Jahres nahm sie an der International Fleet Review im Solent teil. Ihr erster größerer Einsatz folgte Anfang 2006, als sie im Rahmen der Operation Enduring Freedom am Horn von Afrika eingesetzt wurde. Anschließend übernahm sie für drei Monate die Rolle des Flaggschiffs der Royal Navy im Persischen Golf. Während sie sich auf dem Rückweg nach England befand, brach im Juli 2006 der Libanonkrieg zwischen Israel und dem Libanon aus. Im Rahmen der Operation Highbrow evakuierte sie am 20. Juli 1.300 britische Staatsbürger aus Beirut.
2009 war die Bulwark Flaggschiff der multinationalen Übung Taurus. Das Schiff soll vom derzeitigen Bereitschafts-Status High Readiness 2016 zur Reserveflotte wechseln und in einer „Extended Readiness“-Bereitschaft verbleiben.
2015 war sie an der Rettung von tausenden schiffbrüchigen Migranten im Mittelmeer beteiligt.[1][2]

HMS Bulwark, took part in an operational tasking off the coast of Southern Iraq.
During operations in Southern Iraq, Sea King Mk4s of 845 & 846 Naval Air Squadrons were tasked with multiple jobs to carryout during their tours of duty at Basra International Airport.
A visit to one of the Royal Navy's newest ships, HMS Bulwark a Landing Platform Dock (LPD), was the second tasking of the day. HMS Bulwark was due to sail back to the UK on the 10th April, after several months of operations off the shores of the Iraqi coastline. HMS Bulwark also provided a landing platform for other aircraft within the Southern Iraq area, giving much needed aviation fuel to extend operational flying tasks.
On route, several passengers where picked up from the port of Umm Qasr, were the Royal Navy trained the Iraqi Coastal Defence Force.

HMS Bulwark had just completed an overnight journey from Beirut to Limassol Port in Cyprus. Where it dropped off over 1000 assisted departees, as part of Operation Highbrow.
The aim of Operation Highbrow is to provide assistance with the departure of British passport holders and those with duel nationality. This was as a result of conflict, involving Israel and elements of the Hezbollah group based in Southern Lebanon. Israel's response to Hezbollah's rocket attacks on Israeli towns, has involved civilian casualties in some Lebanese towns. European governments, including Britain, have offered their citizens help to flee the country.
