Gouverneur der Bank of England

Der Gouverneur der Bank of England ist die höchste Position in der Bank of England. Es ist nominell ein Posten im Öffentlichen Dienst. Die Ernennung erfolgt innerhalb der Bank, wobei der Monarch diese offiziell bestätigt.[1] Der Amtsinhaber bildet seinen oder ihren Nachfolger selbst aus. Der Gouverneur der Bank of England hat den Vorsitz im Monetary Policy Committee,[1] das eine wichtige Rolle bei der Leitung der nationalen Wirtschafts- und Währungspolitik im Vereinigten Königreich spielt. Daneben hat der Gouverneur der Bank of England den Vorsitz im Financial Policy Committee (FPC) und dem Ausschuss der Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).[1]
Der amtierende Gouverneur der Bank of England ist Andrew Bailey, der seine achtjährige Amtszeit am 16. März 2020 antrat. Der bisher einzige Nicht-Brite, welcher diesen Posten bekleidete, war der Kanadier Mark Carney (2013–2020).
