Das Connaught-Krankenhaus (englisch Connaught Hospital) ist das größte Krankenhaus in Sierra Leone und zentrale medizinische Einrichtung. Es wird vom Staat betrieben und liegt in der Hauptstadt Freetown. Es wird technisch, in der Ausbildung und Personal durch die britische King’s Sierra Leone Partnership unterstützt.[1]

Das Krankenhaus wurde 1912 von Arthur, 1. Duke of Connaught and Strathearn eröffnet. Nach Schließung und teilweiser Zerstörung im Bürgerkrieg zwischen 1991 und 2002 wurde Connaught 2006 wieder eröffnet. Es gilt als modernste staatliche medizinische Einrichtung im Land, entspricht aber in Großteilen nicht westlichen Standards.[2]

Das Krankenhaus wird seit Anfang der 2020er Jahre renoviert und ausgebaut. Unter anderem wurde eine Station für Verbrennungen gebaut.[3]

Connaught Hospital was on the frontline of the Ebola epidemic when it hit in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Throughout the crisis, UK aid supported the King's Health Partners team to provide lifesaving care and expertise, with British medics on the ground.

Although the outbreak nears its end, it has devastated the health care system across the country.

To help beat future outbreaks - and build a better health service - UK aid is helping to build a new Ebola isolation unit at the hospital, redevelop its Accident and Emergency department and support the British medics sharing their skills and expertise with local staff.
