Die 16. Commonwealth Games fanden vom 11. bis 21. September 1998 in der malaysischen Hauptstadt Kuala Lumpur statt, das erste Mal überhaupt in Asien. Zum ersten Mal standen auch Mannschaftssportarten auf dem Programm.
Ausgetragen wurden 215 Wettbewerbe in den Sportarten Badminton, Bowling, Bowls, Boxen, Cricket, Gewichtheben, Hockey, Leichtathletik, Netball, Radfahren, 7er-Rugby, Schießen, Schwimmen (inkl. Wasserspringen), Squash und Turnen (inkl. Rhythmische Sportgymnastik). Es nahmen 3638 Sportler aus 69 Ländern teil.

This is the flag of the Falkland Islands, used from 1948-1999 (with a short break in April-May 1982 due to the Falklands War). This flag was also used for the en:British Antarctic Territory from 1960-1969 and SGSSI from 1985-1992. The base pattern is from HK Blue Ensign and the arms are from the blue ensign. The FOTW was used for the position of the arms.
