Die 13. Commonwealth Games fanden vom 24. Juli bis 2. August 1986 in der schottischen Hauptstadt Edinburgh statt.
Ausgetragen wurden 163 Wettbewerbe in den Sportarten Badminton, Bowls, Boxen, Gewichtheben, Leichtathletik, Radfahren, Ringen, Rudern, Schießen und Schwimmen (inkl. Wasserspringen). Es nahmen 1662 Sportler aus 27 Ländern teil. Hauptwettkampfort war das Meadowbank Stadium.
Zahlreiche Commonwealth-Mitglieder aus Afrika, Asien und der Karibik boykottierten die Spiele. Sie protestierten damit gegen die britische Regierung, die ihrer Meinung nach eine zu wenig strenge Haltung gegenüber dem Apartheid-Regime in Südafrika einnahm.

This is the flag of the Cayman Islands, prior to 1999 (It seems this version is still in use). The base pattern is from HK Blue Ensign and the arms are from the blue ensign. The FOTW was used for the position of the arms.

This is the flag of the Falkland Islands, used from 1948-1999 (with a short break in April-May 1982 due to the Falklands War). This flag was also used for the en:British Antarctic Territory from 1960-1969 and SGSSI from 1985-1992. The base pattern is from HK Blue Ensign and the arms are from the blue ensign. The FOTW was used for the position of the arms.
