Die AMT Corporation aus Arizona war ein US-amerikanischer Hersteller von Automobilen.[1]

Unternehmensgeschichte

Das Unternehmen wurde 1965 in Phoenix in Arizona gegründet.[2] Egene Winfield leitete es.[2] Es war eine Abteilung der AMT Corporation aus Troy in Michigan, die Spielzeugautos aus Kunststoff herstellte.[3] Durch die Übernahme eines Prototyps von Marbon Chemical Division of Borg Warner begann die Produktion von Automobilen.[1] Der Markenname lautete AMT.[4] 1968 endete die Produktion.[1] Insgesamt entstanden fünf oder sechs Fahrzeuge.[5] 1969 wurde das Unternehmen aufgelöst.[3]

Fahrzeuge

Das einzige Modell war der Piranha.[1] Fahrgestell und Karosserie bestanden aus Kunststoff.[1] Das Fahrzeug war bei 2413 mm Radstand 3988 mm lang.[5] Auffallendes Merkmal des Coupés waren die Flügeltüren.[1] Ein Sechszylinder-Boxermotor vom Chevrolet Corvair trieb die Straßen- und Rennversionen an.[1] Er leistete wahlweise 140 PS oder mit Hilfe eines Turboladers 180 PS.[5] Eine Ausführung als Dragster hatte einen V8-Motor mit 7000 cm³ Hubraum von Chrysler.[1]

Sportsland Unlimited, eine Division von Allied Industries International, stellte später Nachbildungen her.[1]

And, of course, AMT was happy to sell you a 1/24 scale injection molded plastic kit... still available today! The two-piece body of the full size car is thermoplastic, which makes me imagine there was tooling. The original had a dinky British engine, customer cars came with a Corvair motor. All lhad tubular steel frames. The story below suggests up to a dozen bodies were made, suggesting more than 4 but less than 9 or 10 were built as runners.
