Gaṅgā, the personification of the sacred river Ganges. She is shown seated on a lotus flower which rests on the back of a makara (mythical aquatic creature). The makara floats on a river, on the far banks of which can be seen trees and hills. Gaṅgā is shown as fair skinned, wearing heavily decorated clothing including a translucent shawl. She wears a golden crown, ear and hair ornaments and bracelets, necklaces and rings. She has one knee raised, on which she rests her left arm which holds a flower. Her right hand is outstretched and is decorated with henna. She looks at the river. Golden rays emerge from behind her head creating a halo. The painting is surrounded by a black border.
