Thomas Morus

Thomas Morus war ein englischer Staatsmann und humanistischer Autor der Renaissance. Da er sich weigerte, den geforderten Eid auf die königliche Oberherrschaft über die Kirche abzulegen, ließ ihn der König 1535 als Hochverräter hinrichten. Er ist seit 1935 ein Heiliger und Märtyrer der römisch-katholischen Kirche, in der er als Patron der Regierenden und Politiker gilt, und seit 1980 auch der anglikanischen Kirche.
