Haida carver Saaduuts (right) at Center for Wooden Boats, Seattle, Washington, USA with his friend John McNally. Saaduuts supervised the carving of the dugout canoe at right by Haida people and others in Hydaburg, Alaska; it is carved from a single 700-year-old red cedar log. The canoe is called the Steve Philipp after a man who was important in passing on skills of the Northwest First People.
