On April 2, 2014, Dr. France A. Córdova was sworn in as the director of the National Science Foundation in a public ceremony at the agency’s Arlington, Va., headquarters. In her first remarks as NSF director, she said, “To all of you – and to my new NSF colleagues – I would like to commend you for your long-standing commitment to pursuing fundamental scientific research and to keeping our nation at the very forefront of the world’s science and engineering enterprise.… As a young girl, I was inspired to become a scientist by the passion and practice of scientists. I look forward to engaging with you as we continue to empower discovery and drive innovation and make the National Science Foundation known throughout the world as the place ‘where discoveries begin.’” To learn more, see the NSF press release.
