Part of my collection of GERMAN Law Enforcement insignia

This agency is one of the 16 Lander (states) which make up the Federal Republic of Germany.

The German style of police patch was rationalised upon the "regionalisation" of (West) German policing in the mid-1970s. when all remaining municipal police forces wrre merged into the State police of the Lander - and now the patch of all State Police forces comprises the word POLIZEI above the State coat of arms.

When Germany was re-unified in 1990 the former DDR police were similarly "regionalised" into Lander and patches designed accordingly.

Green background to a patch denotes State Police, whereas balck background denotes the Wasserschutzpolizei Division (WSP = (Marine Patrol) of the same State Police.
