Edinburgh Waverley Station - the classic view from The Mound.
View eastward from The Mound over the Station to Waverley Bridge and North Bridge. Princes Street is far left, passing the prominent North British Hotel; Calton Hill is in centre background. On the left are the North Loop lines, then Platforms 19 to 11 of the West End of the main station in sequence across to the right, then the South Loop lines leading to the Suburban Station (platforms 20/21) and the Goods station. Waverley West Box is just out of view to the right. A train is leaving from Platform 12 with an ex-NB 4-4-0 and there are also two B1 4-6-0s visible. (You would never believe that the day before so much rain fell that both main line routes south to England were blocked by floods, the main ECML to Berwick being out of use for three months with 13 bridges swept away or damaged).

Waverley LineDie Waverley Line ist eine Eisenbahnstrecke in Schottland. Sie verläuft von Edinburgh durch die Scottish Borders nach Carlisle im Norden Englands. Erbaut wurde die Strecke zwischen 1849 und 1862 von der North British Railway. Ihren Namen erhielt sie nach dem Roman Waverley von Sir Walter Scott. Ab 1921 wurde sie von der London and North Eastern Railway betrieben, ab 1948 von British Railways.
