Coat of arms of Liam Seán MacDaid
The Cross:
- Central to the Coat of Arms is the Clogher Cross, a bronze 15th century heirloom of the Diocese, depicting Christ on the Cross, surrounded by Mary and John, and by a succession of disciples over the centuries.
The Circle of Stones:
- The Cross rises from the circle, symbol of eternity. The stones remind us of the great pilgrimage site of Lough Derg, situated in the diocese, and dedicated to our National Patron, St. Patrick.
The Rowan Leaf:
- Fruitful symbol of St. Macartan, patron of the diocese, and helper of St. Patrick.
Bishop MacDaid has chosen for his Episcopla Motto a phrase taken from the doxology of the Third Eucharistic Prayer and chosen by the Bishop, as his Motto because it reminds us that we are merely the instruments; God does the work through Christ our Lord. Per Christum Dominum Nostrum (Through Christ Our Lord).
